Spring Concert Memo

May 12, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is the time of year when the Trexler Middle School Choral students present their spring concert. We invite you to join us on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 6:30 PM for the 6th grade performance followed by the 7th and 8th grade performance at approximately 7:15 PM.   The concert will be held in the RICHLANDS HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM and the cost of admission is $2.00 for adults and school age children.

I am requesting that 6th choral students be on stage by 6:00 PM so that we may warm up and do a sound check and the 7th and 8th grade students will meet in the band room by 6:30 PM.  Please make every effort to have your child in the designated area on time.

All students must be in concert attire. The young ladies should wear a white sleeved shirt, black pants or knee length skirt and black shoes—NO ATHELETIC SHOES, FLIP FLOPS, OR VERY HIGH HEELS PLEASE. The young men should wear a white dress shirt, long tie (7th & 8th grade only), black slacks and dress shoes (NO ATHELETIC SHOES). Students should not bring any personal belongings (coats, purses, cell phones, etc.) with them to the stage area.

Since each member of the chorus is vital to the ensemble, it is most important that all choral students attend the concert.  Likewise, concert attendance is a factor in the grading policy.  Therefore, any student that is unable to attend must have a written note explaining their absence and the student is responsible for singing the program music privately for me within one week or as soon as possible in order to receive a grade for the concert. All students are expected to follow the concert expectations which state that choral students should: 1) attend all scheduled performances, 2) arrive on time, 3) wear the uniform as instructed, 4) follow the school code of conduct, and 5) use proper concert etiquette while performing and listening to other groups.

Once again we look forward to your presence at our spring concert on Monday, May 22nd at 6:30 PM (6th grade) or 7:15 PM (7th and 8th grade).  Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the front office or via email at .

Musically yours,

Tamara Andrews NBCT

Trexler Middle School Choral Director

All students need a Choral Journal (a two pocket folder with brads filled with loose leaf notebook paper)and a pencil which will be used on a daily basis.  The Choral Journal will be left in the chorus room.

Choral students will also be expected to take notes about musical terms, elements and concepts.  These journal notes will also be checked at least once every nine weeks for a grade which is part of the classroom work grade. Students are allowed to use all notes for quizzes.  Accommodations will be made for students that need modifications such as extended time, separate setting, read aloud, etc. Students who are absent will be expected to make up quizzes, singing tests and/or concert absences within 5 school days or as soon as possible.

Students will have an opportunity to make up any missed Do Now activities or journal notes.
